Pearl Marshall, Regional Coordinator
Welcome to the Los Angeles Metro section of the Area 12 Web site! This page is where you will find what is going on in our region. I am Pearl Marshall, your L.A. Metro Regional Coordinator. Please let me take a moment to introduce myself.
I started ringing handbells my senior year in college – late in life compared to some. After graduating, I joined the adult ringers at my home church in Maryland. Armed with a music education degree, I was soon asked to direct the junior high ringers, then the beginning adults, and then…and then….
I founded a curricular handbell program for 1st through 8th grades at Green Acres School in suburban Maryland. While living in the DC area, I rang with Capital Carillon, a D.C. area auditioned community choir, and served on the group’s Board of Directors. I also served Area 3 as co-coordinator of the annual Youth Festival and as the C.H.I.M.E. liaison, and I was often asked to sub for both ringers and directors in the DC Metropolitan Area.
In 2006, I moved to California with my husband Jack. I joined the Northridge UMC staff for a few months as the children’s handbell director and rang with their adult choir. I have also played with the South Coast Handbell Ensemble, and have substituted for the First United Methodist Church of Glendale, La Canada Presbyterian Church, and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange. Whew! I currently ring with LA Bronze, a new community group in the LA area, and am on staff at the First United Methodist Church of Glendale as the Children’s Music Director and Wedding Coordinator.
During 2010 and 2011, I assisted Debbie Shaw, the former LA Regional Coordinator, in organizing our local events, so you could say I’ve had some good training before taking on this role. I look forward to meeting more of the LA Metro handbell groups. If you know you’ll have a hole in your weekly rehearsal, please contact me to sub so that I can meet you and learn how I can best serve you. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact me with your questions and ideas.
The LA Metro region includes Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura counties, as well as areas north to Carpenteria and east to Ontario. I would love to post your concert announcements and help you plan events in your area. Feel free to contact me for assistance, and check back here often to stay involved!
