2012 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SPRING RING
with BARBARA MEINKE
Saturday, April 21, 2012
Hope Lutheran Church, 29141 Vallejo Ave, Temecula, CA 92592-2319
This event is sponsored by the
Handbell Musicians of America, dedicated to uniting people through the musical art of handbell and handchime ringing.
Our conductor is Southern California's own Barbara Meinke. An up-and-coming massed ringing director, Barbara was born and raised in SoCal and has been ringing and conducting for more than 30 years. After earning a BA in Music from California State University in Fullerton, she began her career in 1993 directing choral music at Hope Lutheran Church in Temecula, CA, and soon developed a multiple ensemble handbell ministry which she continues to direct. She rings with Sonos Handbell Ensemble, The Guild’s Distinctly Bronze, and is a founding artist in the new Timbré Ensemble. In addition to directing and ringing, Barbara is in demand as a substitute teacher for Lake Elsinore Unified School District. She brings enthusiasm, energy, high expectations, and superb musicianship to the classroom and podium. You're going to love working under her baton!
2012 is the year the Area 12 Festival/Conference will be at Disneyland, so we have modified the format of our Spring Ring to encourage you all to attend that event, too. (And, believe me, you DON’T want to miss it!) This year, we will not have any classes, nor will we have a Bronze Vision event. (Don’t worry; those things will be back in 2013!) This year will be massed ringing only and three of our four pieces are from the Disneyland repertoire. We will still have a public concert at the end of the event and, of course, attending groups will have the opportunity to present a solo number at that concert.
One other change: Ringers will be on their own for lunch. They may choose to bring their own lunch or purchase one from a nearby establishment. Lunch will NOT be provided at the event. We will have coffee, water, and some snacks, but ask that groups please bring some goodies to share.
Registration this year will be by sliding fee:
the more ringers you bring, the lower the fee per ringer!

Less experienced groups may wish to drop the more challenging work(s) and more advanced groups may wish to skip the easier piece(s).

Performance Notes from Barbara will be available for all of the repertoire pieces soon. Directors, please be sure to look at these so you can prepare your choir for the event!
OTHER DETAILS:
Table rental: Groups who register before the Early Bird Deadline of February 15th will be able to rent tables for use at the event. The small rental fee of $1.00 per foot is used to help with custodial fees. Groups who register after the deadline will need to bring their own tables.
Music exchange: There will be a table where directors may lay out music they no longer use. Feel free to help yourself from this display; it is a free exchange.
Handbell store: Did you forget your gloves? Need more mallets? Get them at the event!
Free-will Offering: An offering will be taken at the concert to benefit Hope’s handbell ministry. Please invite friends & family to the concert -- we'd like a big audience!
Snacks and things: During the breaks, there will be an opportunity to munch on goodies. We need your help with this, so please bring some snacks to share. We will provide drinks (coffee, soda pop & water). This will also be a good time to shop at the handbell store, enjoy each other's company, and ask questions.
