CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Dear Handbell Friends,
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Another memorable Christmas Season filled with the joyous
ringing of Bay Area choirs has come and gone. Now we must all shift gears and
prepare for Lenten Services, spring concerts, and spring rings. There are some
exciting opportunities like the Los Gatos Reading Session, Bay Area School
Handbell Festival, Oakland Festival, and Spring Ring to take advantage of these
next few months. Check out the details below.
Welcome home, Sonos, after a very successful tour to Japan. Again they
astounded the Japanese people with their artistry and musicality. They gave
14 concerts in some of the most outstanding concert halls throughout Japan.
Nancy Hascall, who joined the Sonosians for this tour, said "It was a fantastic
experience for me. What a fun bunch of people to work and travel with. Lots of
laughter and for the most part, everyone remained quite cheerful and good
natured despite colds, fatigue, and being together so much of the time. And
continuing to hone our performance throughout the tour has brought it to a very
satisfying place musically. What a treat to play with so many superb
musicians." Thank you Sonos for being such wonderful ambassadors of our art of
ringing.
In this post holiday lull it is important to reflect on past accomplishments and
understand how much you and your choirs do toward enriching people's lives with
your music. May 2006 be filled with many more memorable musical experiences.
Happy Ringing!
Carol

>From Dave Ruder, Chair of Area XII:
AREA XII YOUNG RINGERS' CONFERENCE
A fascinating, fun event awaits your young ringers at the handbell
conference at Notre Dame de Namur, Belmont next June 22-23. Massed
ringing, fun classes to increase interest in bell ringing and improve
handbell and rhythm skills will abound. Youth may live on campus in
dorm rooms, experience college meals in the cafeteria, enjoy pizza
and ice cream events, make friends with other handbell groups and
bond together as a team as they share together.
All this will be led by wonderful clinicians, experienced with young
ringers. The massed ringing and special classes will be led by Shosh
Meyers who was the former national youth handbell coordinator.
Notre Dame de Namur is located on a beautiful hilly campus a short
one mile from the city of Belmont. The entire event, room and board,
is less than $100. Commuter rates are considerably less.
Early registration will help us determine the number of class
sessions offered as Area XII endeavors to keep the classes small.
All the registration information can be secured by going either to
the Area XII website:
www.areaxii.org/Conf06conf/06Conferenceindex.htm
or contacting: dianruder@comcast.net
