HANDBELL EVENTS CALENDAR**

The LA METRO SPRING RING is just 6 weeks away! Now is the time to be learning
the music so that your choir is prepared on March 18. Remember the registration
deadline of March 1 for the reduced price.
Those of you who are planning to attend the INLAND EMPIRE SPRING RING, you have
12 weeks to go. But it is not too early to begin working on the music. The
registration deadline is April 1 for the reduced price for this event. However,
it would be good to register early as the space is limited.
The information and registration form can be found on the LA Metro home page of
the Area XII Website:
www.areaxii.org.
The clinicians, Lee and Bill Waggener, have prepared reheasal notes for the
repertoire, which will be used at both Spring Rings. Send me an email,
lametro@areaxii.org, and I will send the
notes to you. This will help you to prepare your ringers, which will save us
some rehearsal time on the day of the Spring Ring.

ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP
The format for the ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP has been changed somewhat, but will still
happen on February 11 with Lee Waggener as clinician. The Workshop will take
place from 9 am to 12 noon at the United Church of Christ, 233 W. Harrison,
Claremont, with a cost of $20.00 per ringer. There is space and more ringers are
welcome. If you would like to participate, please send me an email ASAP.

BELMONT UPDATE
The AREA XII RINGERS’ CONFERENCE in Belmont, CA (Bay Area) June 23-25 now has
285 ringers registered, but still no youth choirs registered. If you know of a
youth choir, please encourage them to participate in this fun event. There is
space for about 100 more ringers. So, if your choir is planning to attend, send
your registrations in soon so that you are not disappointed.
If you are going to the Conference, think about donating one or more items to
the Silent Auction. In the past, the funds raised from the Auction have
purchased sets of bells and chimes for the school loan program. The money raised
this year will be designated to a similarly worthwhile project. Anything that
might appeal to attendees at this event would be welcome. Because AREA XII is a
501(c)3 non-profit organization, donations are deductible for IRS purposes. If
you have any questions, please contact Norma Rose, Silent Auction Coordinator,
at (408) 356-6156 Ext. 54 or norrose@verizon.net.
OFTEN ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT BELMONT CONFERENCE
Q) Is the campus wheelchair accessible?
A) Yes
Q) Can guests come to the BBQ on Sat. night and what is the price of the ticket?
A) Guests are welcome and tickets for the BBQ can be purchased at registration
for $15. We need some advance notice that guests are planning to attend the BBQ
so tickets should be purchased at registration.
Q) Can guests purchase tickets for the Sonos concert on Sat. night?

guests and they too can be purchased at registration for $15. If there are still
tickets available on Sat. night they will be sold at the door.
Q) Can I attend as an individual if my choir is not coming?
A) Yes! Please indicate on your registration form you need a group to ring with
and the registrar will place you with a choir that has an opening.

POMONA VALLEY HANDBELL DIRECTORS’ NETWORK
A Beginning Handbell Workshop is planned for Saturday, March 4, 9 am – 12 noon,
at the United Church of Christ, 233 W. Harrison, Claremont. This Workshop is to
introduce handbell ringing to potential ringers. All directors in the Pomona
Valley are invited to come and ring along with their beginners. Please RSVP to
Joan Hamm,

VELOCITY COMES SOUTH!
The fabulous VELOCITY HANDBELL QUARTET will be giving concerts in our area on
the weekend of March 31 to April 2. Their entire weekend schedule will be in the
March eNewsletter. However, I can report that on Sunday afternoon, April 2 at
3:00 pm, Velocity will give a concert at the Church of the Brethren, 2425 E
Street, La Verne, CA 91750. Mark your calendar now and plan to join us for this
innovative concert.

Tim Waugh, handbell clinician and the creator of the infamous cup game, has
suffered from PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) for many years. On Jan. 12th both
of his kidneys were removed and on Jan. 30th the actual transplant took place.
Tim's surgery was successful and he is now recovering in ICU at Duke University
Hospital. Tim appreciates your thoughts and prayers on his behalf. For updates
regarding Tim’s recovery progress, check his blog: http://kidneykronikles.blogspot.com.

On a sad note, the handbell world is mourning the loss of
Marilyn Kielniarz, president elect of AGEHR, who passed away Monday Jan. 30,
2006 from cancer. Marilyn taught Music Theory and Dalcroze Eurhythmics at many
of the National Seminars and wrote many articles for Overtones on these
subjects. In addition to her work with the Guild, she was active as an organist,
conductor and ethnomusicologist (Indonesian gamelan). The handbell community
will certainly feel the loss of her leadership and musical talents. Our thoughts
and prayers go out to Marilyn's family.
