Happy New Year!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear
Handbell Friends,
I hope that all of you had a wonderful and joyous holiday
season. Now is a great time to catch our breath for a moment
and reflect on all we have accomplished in 2007 and make plans
for 2008. The educational offerings of Area XII are numerous
and I hope your plans include attending at least one this year.
As members of AGEHR you can attend any of the events.
This issue has the announcement about the 2008 LA Metro Spring
Ring on April 26th in Long Beach. We are fortunate to have Nancy
Jessup as our Clinician this year. Nancy has a tremendous
background in handbells and is one of the handbell teachers at
Concordia University, Irvine. She is a great teacher and
director. Nancy will be joining us for a new Director's
Roundtable during the lunch break. I hope you will seriously
consider attending, I am sure you will find the day enjoyable
and educational.
Coming up next week on Monday, January 7 is Kathie Fink's
Farewell California/Legacy Concert in Pasadena. Kathie is
relocating to Kentucky in the coming months and this will be our
final opportunity see her play before she leaves us. I hope to
see many of you there! There are also other events and concerts
listed, please take a moment and check your calendar and see if
you can attend any. Don't forget about the upcoming Directors
Workshop on Feb 10, in Irvine.
Registration for the Riverside Ringers Conference will be
entirely online this year. You will also be able to select your
classes online as well. This Ringer's Conference is close
enough for us in the LA Metro region to minimize out traveling
to attend. Some of us may even be able to commute! These
events provide many opportunities to learn about handbell
musicianship, meet other ringers, attend classes and learn new
skills, and the all important, having a great time. If you have
never attended in the past, consider making Riverside your
first! More details will be available soon on the Area XII
website,
www.areaxii.org. Keep checking the website for more
details.
Please help me make our E-news as useful as possible by sending
me your comments about events and most definitely any handbell
events you have planned. I will gladly include an announcement
about your event in the E-news. You can submit a calendar
announcement or a full article with pictures. The more we know
about what is happening in our area the more we can support each
other!
I am repeating the information about the few bugs we are having
with the new online newsletter service we are now using. Carol
Smith our Bay Area Regional Coordinator has been working hard at
"de-bugging" this new method. We are asking for your help in
resolving some of the problems.
I will recap briefly what the problem's are and what we have
learned.
 |
Some of you
are not gettting your E-newletters from us. This seems to be
the result of 2 different problems. 1. We do not have correct
e-mail addresses for all of you. 2. (the bigger problem) Some
of the ISP's mail filtering software is blocking our e-mails to
you. |
 |
Some of you
are only getting part of your E-Newsletters. This problem seems
to be isolated to AOL subscribers. This MAY be caused by the
version of AOL you are using on your computer. The most recent
version of AOL seems to be working fine. Please let me know if
you continue to have problems or if you find a solution that I
can share. |
 |
You are
receiving text version only-
 |
Again this
is a problem with your ISP and whether you have an updated
browser. For example on a MAC using Safari as your browser
you will not receive the pictures and new format. Carol Smith
discovered that while using Firefox on her MAC and comcast as
her ISP, she still receives the enewsletter in text format
only. However, if she goes into Entourage, which is part of
Microsoft Office 2004 and open the newsletter it is in the new
format. |
|
How can you help? If you know of anyone who should be getting the
E-newsletter and has not gotten Nov or Dec from me, please have
them contact me at
lametro@areaxii.org and verify their e-mail addresses with
me. Also, please set your spam filters to accept e-mails from
lametro@areaxii.org by adding me to your address book. It
may be necessary to contact your ISP (earthlink, hotmail, etc.)
and have them update their "whitelist" to allow you receive e-mail
from Constant Contact coming from
lametro@areaxii.org. Those of you using school district e-mail
addresses may need to speak to someone about allowing this address
to come through your firewall.
This is important now that Area
XII is using electronic communication for our primary information
distribution. This E-newsletter will
be your main connection to what is happening in LA Metro. Also,
please remember that you do not have to be a member of AGEHR to
receive this E-newletter. If you know someone who would like this
information have them send me an e-mail and ask to be added to the
e-mailing list. Please feel free to forward this e-newsletter to
someone who is interested or somehow they did not get theirs.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or
concerns. I will see what I can do to help!
Happy Ringing in 2008!
Debbie
Bay
Area Spring Ring- April 19, 2008 - Valley Church, Cupertino
Doug Benton, Guest Conductor
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are always some fascinating workshops for beginning,
intermediate and advanced ringers as well as for directors at the
Annual Spring Ring. Classes confirmed at this time include:
Assigning Bells (meeting challenges), Basics Revisited (Your
100,000 Measure Tune-Up), Call Change Ringing, Director's
Certification Exam (Part 1), Essential Skills for Soloists (or
Small Ensembles), Finale- Beginning and Intermediate classes
(music software program), Mallets Aforethought, Musicality in
Ringing, Percussion Toys with Bells, Music (new) Reading Sessions,
Trouble Shooting 101 (overcoming trouble spots in playing).
There are two classes that are of particular interest: Larry Sue
will be teaching two sessions on Finale, a music software
program. Some folks may wish to find out what writing music on a
computer is all about. Some may wish to get some tips on how to
use the program (no computer needed). Larry has worked with this
program for over 16 years and made a number of positive
suggestions over the years to improve it and make it more friendly
to the user.
Directors may wish to seek certification by taking the Director's
Certification Exam (Part I). There is an extra charge of $25 and
participants will need to pre-register at least two weeks in
advance so that we can have the exam materials on hand.
