I want to thank each of you who have helped me with my mailing list update.  I am getting
more of you identified and getting e-mail addresses corrected!  I still have a few e-mails
bouncing, missing addresses, and mystery recipients but we are making progress.  With your
continued help we will reach the goal of every Guild Member and ringer in LA Metro will receive
a copy of the e-news.

A special request to those of you who are receiving the e-news, PLEASE forward a copy to all
the bell ringers in your choir and any other ringers you have in your address book.  Encourage
them to sign up for the e-news and everyone will know what is going on in the area.   As a
director I appreciate it when a ringer reminds me of upcoming events that I might have
forgotten to announce in rehearsal.  It saves me time when they all know what is available!

If you do not see your name in the greeting above, please take a couple of minutes and update
your information.  Just drop me a quick e-mail with any informaton that can help me get this
system working effeciently.  My e-mail address is lametro@areaxii.org. this will be a big help to
me.   Please know that this list is ONLY for AGEHR use and will not be used for any other
purposes!  Our goal is to have 100% of our members on this list.

Thanks for your help!
Debbie
Handbell Hello!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Debbie Shaw Headshot Dear Handbell Friends,
I can hardly believe that it is August already.  I hope all of you are having a great
summer.  For many of us preparations for a new season of handbells are underway.
There is always much to do to prepare for the Fall and the resuming of rehearsals.
Below there are several announcements for upcoming Workshops, Auditions, and
Reading Sessions in our region.  There are also some early concert announcements,
so you add them to your calendar now and make plans to attend.
Don't forget the Annual Fall Ringer's Workshop on September 27th in Pasadena.  The brand new
Youth and High School event, Ring, Winter Bells on January 24th in Garden Grove.  Details for
both of these events can be found below.  Also, we are working the Spring Ring in April 2009
and hope to have details for you in the next couple of months.
On September 27 & 28th AGEHR Area XII will be having their semi-annual Board Meeting. If you
have any matters that you would like brought up at the Board Meeting, please let a Board Member
know. I would be happy to take your questions or concerns to the Board.  Just give me a call or
drop me an e-mail!
Do you have an announcement you would like to share with 250+ handbell ringers in the LA Metro
Region?  This newsletter is a great way to let other handbell directors and ringers know that you
have a concert coming up or need more ringers in you choir.  This is our newsletter, let's share
the news.  I would love to help you spread the word of great things happening here in the
LA Metro region.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns.  If you
don't see an event in your area why not plan one!  If you have the interest and the space I can
help you make it happen
Handbell Ringer Opening
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cathedral Bells Handbell Ensemble at St. John's Lutheran Church, Orange, is looking for a ringer, preferably
 someone with skills including bass bell ringing.   The group rings monthly for church services and for festival
services and concerts.   It gives a full concert annually in the spring and performs on a limited basis within the
community.    Cathedral Bells rings predominantly Levels 4 and 5 music, using 6 plus octaves of bells and
5 ½ octaves of handchimes.    Rehearsals are on Tuesdays, from 7:00 to 9:15 p.m., beginning September 30.

Please contact Ramona Miller, director, at (714) 633-3034, or at brmiller2@cox.net.
Low Ding Zone auditions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Low Ding ZoneLow Ding Zone, the World's First Bass Handbell
Ensemble and a part of Bay Bells, Inc. (soon to be
Handbell Ventures), is having auditions for the
2008-2009 season.

 Where

: Grace Lutheran Church,

            3149 Waverly St.,
            Palo Alto, CA Brown Hall
            (enter by the doors on Loma Verde Ave.)

When: Sunday, September 14, 2008, 3:30 p.m.

Particulars:
- Required skills: Bass ringing (bells and chimes), willingness to try new
techniques, high "ham" quotient. Some possible percussion involved.
Previous ensemble ringing experience a definite plus. Creativity and
low sanity quotient even bigger plusses.

- If you let us know what other musical skills you have, chances are we'll
find some bizarre way to incorporate them into what we do. Well, if
you're game...

- You'll be performing with us in concerts, both on our own and as  part
of a "bass support"  unit to help other ensembles.

- You'll get the opportunity to teach with LDZ as part of a complete
clinician package for handbell workshops.

- And: you'll have a great time!

If you'd like to audition, please send a reply to larry@choraegus.com and
tell us why you would make a great addition to the Low Ding Zone team.
We need to hear from you by Sunday, September 7, 2008 so we can
anticipate getting together!

 can never get enough ringing, the first Distinctly
 Bronze  West Coast Event will be held February

at the Kitsap Conference Center in

Bremerton, Washington.  David Davidson, who has
directed the East Coast Distinctly Bronze for the past
10 years will be the conductor.  Registration

the AGEHR website for more information. AGEHR
National plans to be rolling out a new online registration service for the DB West Event.

Debbie's note:  If you have always dreamed of going to DB this is your chance.  The October
2008 event in New Bern is FULL and has been full since April.  There is a waitlist of approx
10 names according to Jenny Cauhorn, our Executice Director at AGEHR National.  As a DB
alumni I can tell you this is an amazing opportunity to work on high level musicianship and
perfomance. We prepare 13 titles of Level 4-6 music and present a final concert which is
recorded. We also make a CD of the concert.

If you have any questons please do not hesitate to ask.  Lee Waggener, Micki Mennet-Martin,
and Shannon Shaw are also alumni from So. Cal. From No. Cal, DB Alumni are PL Grove, Ruben
Mendoza, and Betty Heise. (Sorry if I missed anyone!)  Take a look at the registration materials
on the National Website. (www.agehr.org then find Community on the left margin, click EVENTS,
then Events Calendar, and scroll down to October and click on Distinctly Bronze)  If you are a
First-Time attendee there are some extra forms that you must complete and submit before you
will be accepted into the event.  I would love to see Area XII well represented at the first DB
West.  Let's help make this event a success so they will plan for another West Coast event soon!
The registration is limited to approximately 114 ringers so start making your plans to attend now.

 PLEASE share this information with any advanced level ringer you know.
You Can Play Handbells in Italy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bay Bells logoHave you longed to ring in a country church in Tuscany? Ever
thought of playing bells along the Grand Canal or on the Spanish
Steps?  Bay Bells is establishing a Touring Group and our inaugural
tour will be to ITALY!  Dates are still in the works as are the details,
but if this is something of interest, contact us ASAP.
We're hoping to hear from anyone interested in participating and
will hold "long-distance" auditions across the country within the next few weeks so we can
make more definitive arrangements.  We'd get you the music to study in advance, hold a
short series of rehearsals before departing for a 10-day trip including 5 concerts throughout
the heart of Italy.  We'll even teach you some Italian before you go.
We're also working on the budget, but hoping to make this a reasonable expense.  Dates
under consideration are March and June 2009. Contact William Kyle for more information.
