Distinctly Bronze Comes to the West Coast.
         Unfortunate news first. The Sept. 20 Read and Ring has been cancelled. I'm sorry we were not able to proceed with this event. We will make every effort to tweak the arrangements and provide this kind of event for level 1 and 2 ringers at another time.
           GOOD news now. Our March 21 Spring Ring arrangements are so exciting. Be sure to check out the website Larry Sue, our clinician, has provided. It's full of very helpful details. The theme will be "It's Easier Than It Looks." The Friday night before the spring ring will feature a SCHMEE workshop. What is SCHMEE? Read below! This is an event you won't want to miss.
           Many other wonderful ringing opportunities are taking place all over the country. Aren't we luck to have hobby that can be so creative, philanthropic, challenging, and gratifying at the same time!!!

Spring Ring: It's Easier Than It Looks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Mark your calendar for March 21, 2009 at Point Loma Presbyterian Church. Our clinician will be Larry Sue, founder of the Low Ding Zone, a bass bells ensemble in the Bay Area. He brings such zest, energy, and expertise to the podium; this promises to be one of the best-ever Spring Rings you'll ever attend. The theme of the day will be carried out by rehearsal notes Larry has thoughtfully provided on the link below, as well as in the breakout workshops to be held mid-day. Whether your choir is level one and you need to know how to tackle level 2, or you're more advanced but the leveling system has you baffled, Larry will bring clarity (and hilarity!) to put challenging pieces within your reach. The repertoire is below, but be sure to click on this link for further details:
SCHMEE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  What is SCHMEE, you ask? Why it's Sadomasochistic Chime/Handbell Maniacal Ensemble Extravaganza, of course! As you can tell from the title, it's not for the faint of heart. It's for those of you who've often wondered, "How do they do that???" Well, our clinician, Larry Sue, will show you all of the tricks of the trade. You don't need to be a level 5 ringer to participate. You've always wanted to try Distinctly Bronze or Bayview or one of the nationally auditioned events but didn't feel skilled enough? Here, you only need to be someone who can hold your own as a ringer, who can't get enough of ringing, wants to grow as a ringer, and who likes to have fun. This is a non-threatening environment in which you can try your wings at some more challenging music, with a clinician who will show you how to make more difficult music seem easier. SCHMEE will begin on Friday evening before Spring Ring, i.e. March 20, from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M. at Point Loma Presbyterian Church, continue on Saturday morning for an hour before the rest of Spring Ring, i.e. 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., and contribute one or two numbers to the Saturday afternoon concert at 4:00. It carries a separate registration form/fee and repertoire below. Click on this link for more details:

Get Ready for Christmas
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Plan your Christmas music early! Chula Vista Presbyterian Church is presenting a marvelous opportunity to get a head start on your Christmas music and to benefit Interfaith Shelter at the same time.  Contact Elizabeth Laboda, melandptl@netscape.com to reserve a spot on the program. Then prepare a song of your choosing and bring your choir to a concert on December 5. Enjoy the music of other choirs, experience the blessing of helping others, and relax knowing that at least one of your holiday songs is already polished.
Distinctly Bronze Comes to the West Coast
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  For those advanced and enthusiasitc ringers who can never get enough ringing, the first Distinctly Bronze West Coast Event will be held February 12-15, 2009 at the Kitsap Conference Center in Bremerton, Washington.  David Davidson, who has directed the East Coast Distinctly Bronze for the past 10 years will be the conductor.  Registration information will be available in September 2008.  See the AGEHR website for more information. AGEHR National plans to be rolling out a new online registration service for the DB West Event.   Debbie's note:  If you have always dreamed of going to DB this is your chance.  The October 2008 event in New Bern is FULL and has been full since April.  There is a waitlist of approx 10 names according to Jenny Cauhorn, our Executice Director at AGEHR National.  As a DB alumni I can tell you this is an amazing opportunity to work on high level musicianship and perfomance. We prepare 13 titles of Level 4-6 music and present a final concert which is recorded. We also make a CD of the concert.   If you have any questons please do not hesitate to ask.  Lee Waggener, Micki Mennet-Martin, and Shannon Shaw are also alumni from So. Cal. From No. Cal, DB Alumni are PL Grove, Ruben Mendoza, and Betty Heise. (Sorry if I missed anyone!)  Take a look at the registration materials on the National Website. (www.agehr.org then find Community on the left margin, click EVENTS, then Events Calendar, and scroll down to October and click on Distinctly Bronze)  If you are a First-Time attendee there are some extra forms that you must complete and submit before you will be accepted into the event.  I would love to see Area XII well represented at the first DB West.  Let's help make this event a success so they will plan for another West Coast event soon!  The registration is limited to approximately 114 ringers so start making your plans to attend now.   PLEASE share this information with any advanced level ringer you know.
