MICHAEL J. GLASGOW
A native of Detroit, Mr. Glasgow is an honors graduate from the College of Charleston, South Carolina, where he received B.A. degrees in music theory/composition and journalism. He holds a summa cum laude Master of Church Music degree from Concordia University, Wisconsin as the program’s first double-emphasis student, in both choral and handbell music. Michael has composed four musical plays, as well as numerous original sacred choral, orchestral, and handbell compositions. He has served as North Raleigh UMC’s full-time Minister of Music since April 1998. An active member of the ACDA, AGEHR, ASCAP, and FUMMWA, Michael participates in many extracurricular and educational pursuits, including serving as the editor for the AGEHR Area III newsletter, The Bell-O-Gram. In his admittedly limited spare time, Michael enjoys weightlifting, yoga, and gourmet cooking, and serves as the Bass Section Leader for the North Carolina Master Chorale.
DR. WILLIAM A. PAYN
In constant demand as a handbell clinician, Dr. Payn has achieved prominence as a conductor and composer. As Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, he has led his choirs to international recognition for their creative interpretation of significant vocal and handbell literature, presenting concerts world wide. His nearly 30 handbell compositions are performed virtually every week in the United States and abroad. Payn received his Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster Choir College and his Doctor of Musical Arts in organ and harpsichord literature from West Virginia University. In May 1996, he was presented the Westminster Choir College Distinguished Alumni Merit Award. The AGEHR honored him as a Master Conductor and Master Clinician for his work, particularly in the area of musicality in performance.
DEBORAH S. RICE
Ms. Rice has earned degrees in music education, opera and music theatre. In addition to her university training, she has done specialized study in early vocal music and conducting. Currently, she is the Director of the Handbell Ministry for Becks Baptist Church and part of the vocal staff for Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her handbell ministry includes multicultural and intergenerational handbell choirs for all ages. Her advanced choir, Rejoice Ringers, was the first handbell group selected by Kindermusic International for their world-wide distribution of music on CD for early childhood education. She is a frequent contributor to Overtones, clinician for national events, and has held elected offices as an Area Chair, National Secretary and the National Presidential cycle. Debbie currently serves as the Executive Director for the International Handbell Committee.
MICHÈLE SHARIK
Born and raised in Ohio, Ms. Sharik began her musical career with the flute and studied composition and flute performance at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. She began ringing and directing handbell choirs in 1991 and in January 2002, she moved to the San Francisco Bay area to join Sonos. She serves as Director of Handbells for two San Francisco Bay Area churches and also teaches handbell lessons and workshops and appears as clinician at regional handbell events. As a Handbell Solo Artist, she has competed in two national Solo/Ensemble events, and is increasingly in demand to take the stage across the United States, Canada and abroad. Past tours have included concerts in Arizona, Michigan, Colorado, Massachusetts and Texas as well as in London and Bristol (England), and Hong Kong (China). Her first full-length solo CD, Chimera, is now available.
